Best Hoover Steam Cleaner Reviews of 2017

The Hoover WH20445PC Floormate Steamscrub is a 2-in-1 hoover steam cleaner that can be used as a steam mop but also has a detachable portable steamer that can be taken off of it and used on surfaces such as stoves, grills or even your bathroom walls. When I first saw this steamer, I thought that its design was so cool that I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. And now, I’m reviewing it.

One of the first things I noticed about this cleaner is that is it fairly light – weighing only about 6.7 pounds. Just the right weight to make it fairly easy to use. The next thing that caught my eye was that it had dual tanks, one for clean water and one for dirty water collection. Which is a good idea, although I do have to say that while I liked the dual tank design, I wasn’t pleased that the tanks were so small. The clean water tank only held about 8.7-ounces of water – which is approximately half of what other steam mops hold. I knew right then and there that this steamer was going to have to be frequently filled to get my cleaning done.

And I was right. After taking about 30-seconds to heat up, which isn’t bad but it also isn’t the best I’ve seen in a steam cleaner, I got about 14-minutes of steam on the “Low” setting and about 9-minutes of steam on the “High” setting. A little disappointing, if I do say so myself.

Of course, while the steam time was a little low for this machine, I did find that it got pretty hot. It’s hot enough not only to clean but also to sanitize and this unit did a brilliant job on not only my sealed wood floors but also my ceramic floors. Floors aren’t the only thing you can clean with this unit, however. It also comes with a variety of accessories that make it useful to clean a number of things.

It came with small and large plastic brushes for cleaning things like your bathroom tiles, your sink, and your bathtub. It also came with a grout brush that did a really good job at cleaning your tile’s grout. For tough jobs like your BBQ grill, there is a steel wire brush that works marvelously well. Other accessories that come with this unit include a squeegee, an upholstery cloth, an angled crevice tool, carpet glider, a couple of mop pads and a scraping tool. A nice assortment of accessories, if you ask me.

All things considered, I think this would have been a great steamer if the tanks were a little bit bigger and it delivered a longer steam-time. Sure, I understand they downsized the tanks to make the detachable portable steamer easier to use, but I wish they would have found some kind of workaround. This is a good steam unit, it just doesn’t deliver a whole lot of steam time.

The Hoover WH20400 Steam Scrub Pro Steam Mop is a hoover steam cleaner that looks nicely designed and compact. While it’s not the smallest cleaner that I’ve seen since I’ve been using steam cleaners, it is nice and light – weighing around 6.7-pounds or so. However, that isn’t the only thing this unit has going for it. It also has a couple of other features that make it not only easy to use but also useful.

One of the very first things I noticed about this machine was that it had a dial in which you can select the surface you are trying to clean. If you’re cleaning sealed wood, then put it on the “wood” setting. If you’re cleaning “vinyl” or “tile” then merely put it on the appropriate setting. I thought that was pretty neat.

Another thing that caught my attention was that you could use this steamer with a cleaning solution or with just plain steam – your choice. This unit also had dual-tanks that kept clean water and dirty water separate. And the clean water tank was quite large and held about 16.7-ounces of water. I knew right then that this machine would probably provide me with a good amount of cleaning time before I had to refill it – and you know what? I was right.

After heating up for approximately 20-seconds I put this unit to the test. I used it to refresh my carpets, to clean my sealed wood floors and on one of my tile floors using its tile & grout scrub brush. Using its steam trigger I was able to not only clean quickly and efficiently but also sanitize as well. And yes, I did get a pretty good amount of steam time. About 20 minutes on full-blast and about 30 minutes with a lower setting.

I like the fact that when you first turn it on, a red light comes on. When the unit is fully heated, however, this red light will turn to a green light. That lets you know that the machine is ready to start cleaning. I gotta say that I love this visual light system that lets me know exactly when the cleaner is ready to get to work.

I have to say that this unit is pretty powerful and easy-to-use. I was a little skeptical about its lack of accessories, but it really didn’t need a whole bunch of accessories to do a great job cleaning. Overall, I think the only complaint I have with this unit is its price. If it weren’t priced higher than a lot of other steam mops, then it would’ve ranked higher.

The Hoover WH20420PC Floor Mate SteamScrub Touch Hard Floor Steamer is a hoover steam cleaner that has a nice design and what looks like intuitive controls. So needless to say, I was pretty happy when I received this cleaner and was able to put it through its paces.

One of the first things I really liked about this unit was that it had controls for various surfaces – like the Hoover WH20400 – on the front of it. But instead of a dial, it has buttons instead. There is a button for “tile”, “vinyl” and “wood.” By selecting one of these settings, you can set the machine up to clean those particular surfaces. Just be sure that when you use the wood setting that you only use it on sealed wood. You shouldn’t use a steam cleaner on unsealed wood surfaces. Just a little reminder. There is also a button for “steam only”, which I think is pretty self-explanatory.

Right underneath these controls, there is the on/off switch with some lights underneath that switch. When you first power the unit on a red light will come on. After the unit has come to proper operating temperature, then that light will turn to blue. You’ll then know it’s ready to clean.

And it only takes about 20 to 25 seconds for this machine to come to temperature. Once it has, then you can expect to get about 50-minutes on a lower setting and about 25-minutes on a higher steam setting. All thanks to its 23.4-ounce clean water tank. Which is one of the largest tanks I’ve seen on a steam mop device since I’ve been reviewing them.

I know, all of this sounds great, but you’re probably wondering about cleaning power. Well, no worries about that because I thought this unit did a pretty great job. It not only sanitized but it also cleaned pretty well, too.

Of course, what really has to be emphasized is that this unit is really made just for floors. It can refresh carpets using the carpet glider, it can clean sealed woods, vinyl floors and it can clean tile/grout using the tile & grout scrub brush. But that’s all you’re going to be able to use this steam mop for. It doesn’t have a detachable cleaner and it doesn’t come with a whole lot of accessories.

With all that being said, I do like this unit. Sure, it’s heavier than comparable models and doesn’t come with a lot of extras, but it does get the job done. However, in a crowded steam mop and cleaner field, it just didn’t have enough features or pizzazz to set it apart from the pack.

When I first saw the Hoover WH20100 Twin Tank Handheld Steam Cleaner, I couldn’t tell if it was a hoover steam cleaner or a flower watering can. Sure, I’m being a little facetious, but it does kind of look like a watering can. Fortunately, it had a lot more going for it than its odd look.

This machine was approximately 10.25-inches high, 8-inches wide and weighed around about 3.4 pounds – which makes it pretty portable, compact and lightweight. It also came with a number of accessories which included a detail cleaning wand, a quick-connect hose, a corner & grout tool, a turbo nozzle extension, a window squeegee, a scraping tool, a garment steamer cloth, a garment steaming tool and a couple of nylon scrub brushes. All in all, a pretty good assortment of tools to get a few jobs done around the house.

After filling the unit with about 10-ounces of water and waiting for it to heat-up – which took about 5 minutes or so – I was ready to use the product. One of the first things I noticed about it was that it really did produce some hot steam. In fact, the steam was so hot that it deformed one of my nylon scrub brushes and it did it after a short period of time – which seems to me kind of is a design flaw. After all, your attachments should be able to hold up to the steam your unit is producing. With the second brush, I was a little more careful and didn’t blast the steam so much and the brush seemed to hold up better. So if you get this unit, just be a little mindful of how you use it.

I took this unit around the house and cleaned a multitude of things with it. I cleaned my stove, my kitchen tiles, spot cleaned my couch and even cleaned some grout. With all of those things, it did a marvelous job. Just be careful with older grout because this machine will remove it with its powerful steam blasts, so just be careful. Using this hand-held steamer, I got about 15-minutes of continuous steam cleaning out of it. Not the best I’ve seen but not too terribly bad for a unit this size.

Overall, I think this is a good hand-held steamer that produces super-hot steam. The only two problems I had with it were the durability of its accessories and its price-tag. This unit is a more expensive than a lot of comparable hand-held steamers on the market today.
