Hoover FH50220 Max Extract 60 Carpet Cleaner Review

The Hoover FH50220 Max Extract 60 Carpet Cleaner is a unit that has a whole lot of things going for it. Two things that I noticed immediately about it was that it didn’t weigh a whole lot and that it had a 13-inch cleaning path – which isn’t so shabby for a steam cleaner in its price range. There were a few other things I liked about it as well, but unfortunately, there were a few bad things, too.

This carpet cleaner had separate tanks for clean and dirty water and that’s always a plus in my book. I also liked the fact that the unit used forced heated air to speed the carpet drying time – which it did significantly. I also liked the fact that this unit had pressurized edge-to-edge cleaning that really lifted stains out of my carpet.

This Hoover also came with a hose and upholstery tool that did a decent job at cleaning my sofa and love seat. So with all of these positives, you are probably wondering why the score isn’t as high as some other carpet cleaners. Well, that’s because, despite all of the positives that this unit may have, it also has a few negatives.

One of the things I didn’t like about it was that it didn’t feel very durable. I know that it is a product that is located on the lower end of the price spectrum, but it feels like to me like they are using a whole lot of plastic in its design, more than I would’ve cared to see.

Another thing that I didn’t like was its tendency to dribble water out of the back of the unit. You see, it has a little overflow back there that is designed to keep water out of the motor, which it does. It also happens to leak a little bit when I’m using it. Not a whole lot but enough for me to worry about it regularly.

And all of this brings me back to my final point. This carpet cleaner needs to be refilled way too much, in my opinion. It seemed like I was always refilling and emptying this unit. Maybe it was the size of the tanks or the slow leak in the back, I’m not sure. All I know is that using it was more labor intensive than it should’ve been.

All things considered, I felt like this was a decent carpet cleaner and would’ve been a great one if a few design issues had been adequately addressed by the manufacturer.
