Canister steam cleaners often have a number of things going for them, especially McCulloch steam cleaner units. Which is why I was so excited to test out the McCulloch MC1385 Deluxe Canister Steam System. This particular product has a number of positives, but unfortunately, it also has some negatives I didn’t care for, so let’s dig down and see if this machine is worth its weight in steam.
Something that definitely goes in the positive category is the number of accessories this machine comes with. It comes with a pretty large number of them, 23 to be precise and these attachments really helped this steam cleaner to accomplish a variety of cleaning tasks. Some of the accessories it comes with include an angled nozzle, a jet nozzle, a variety of brushes, a scraper, mop head, a squeegee, scrubbing mop pads and extension wands. Just about anything you need to clean various parts of your home and car.
I added 64-ounces of water to the unit and it took about 15 minutes to heat up. I was then able to use it on a number of different cleaning projects. Not only did I clean my BBQ grill – which it cleaned flawlessly – but I also used it to remove some of the grime ground down into my bathroom tile grout.
I then used it to mop some of my floors. In my house, I have a variety of different types of floors that make it really handy for me to do these reviews. Some of my upstairs bedrooms have carpet, there’s concrete flooring in my garage, linoleum in my basement and various types of tile for my bathroom and kitchen. So, as you can see, I can try out steam cleaners on a number of different surfaces. Which I did with this unit.
I used it on all of my floors, except for my carpets, and noticed that it did a real bang-up job. Any stain or dirt it would just steam away. I was so impressed by it that I decided to use it to tackle some of the soap scum that had built up in my soap dish. It’s high-pressure steam just about melted the scum and helped me clean it away.
One thing to remember about this unit, however, is not only is the steam coming out of it pressurized but it is also hot. I think it’s about two hundred degrees, so you really have to be careful. Which brings me to one of the things that disappointed me about this system. The hose gets really warm when you are using it for an extended period of time. Warm enough to be uncomfortable. I think that’s because the hose isn’t properly insulated. At least, that’s my opinion.
However, this unit has one really big positive that really makes it stand out. It can deliver 120-minutes of steam! Yes, that’s right. This unit can be used for 2-hours before you have to refill it. Of course, after using it for that long, you are also going to have to let it cool down a bit. But still, that’s about 2-hours of cleaning. And in that amount of time, you can get a whole lot of cleaning done.
Overall, I think this is a great unit. Sure, it has a couple of drawbacks, but I don’t think any of them prevents this unit from being one of the top canister steam cleaners on the market today. It’s pretty much a beast.
