OXA Portable Hand-Held Garment Steamer
When I first received the OXA Portable Hand-Held Garment Steamer, I thought it was a nicely designed product. At least, it looked like a nicely designed product. It had the look you’d expect from a garment steamer and fit quite nicely in my hands. So I think it’s safe to say that I was really looking forward to running it through its paces. Which is exactly what I did.
The unit I received came with 2 brushes – a villus brush and a long brush. It also had a 6.5-foot power cord, which I was quite happy to see after using a few clothes steamers that had smaller power cords. Something else that I noticed about this steamer was that it weighed quite a bit – approximately 29 ounces. While it isn’t the heaviest unit I’ve used, it surely isn’t the lightest.
The next thing I noticed was that it only held approximately 3.3 ounces, or 100 milliliters, of water. Which, if you’ve read my other clothes steamer reviews, will tell you that it doesn’t exactly put it in my favor. I like my garment steamers to have a little more capacity than that.
The small water capacity, however, did allow the unit to warm up very quickly. In fact, the unit was ready to go in about 20-seconds – which is extremely fast. And it after it warmed up, it gave me approximately 7-minutes of steam. And that puts it on the lower end of the spectrum. In my opinion, I think modern garment steamers should provide at least 10-minutes of steam.
I was happy with the safety features this unit had: an auto shut off feature and didn’t once spill or spit water while it was being used. And I do have to say that this unit did a good job steaming, it’s just the small run-time, low water capacity and its weight that kept it from being rated higher in a very competitive steamer market in which quite a few units are competing to grab our attention.
